The NFL Draft of 1970 took place on January 27-28, 1970. The draft was held in New York City, New York. As part of the NFL-AFL merger agreement, the draft was extended to 17 rounds which resulted in 442 players being selected. The Pittsburgh Steelers made Terry Bradshaw the first overall pick, who later became one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Jimmy Johnson, who later coached the Dallas Cowboys to two Super Bowl victories was also selected in this draft. Other players who became NFL greats such as Mel Blount, Ken Anderson, and John Hannah were selected in the later rounds. The 1970 draft is regarded as one of the best draft classes in NFL history.
